Appearance: Neji is rather normal-appearing if you ignore his eyes. He has long, straight black hair going down to his mid-back that has a little tie at the end- but from the front, it’s not noticeable. There’re a few strands of hair that can go over his shoulder sometimes, too. He’s slightly pale.
His eyes are one of the most striking features in his appearance. They have no noticeable pupils and are completely white, sometimes making it hard for people to determine his emotions. This is a common feature in the Hyuuga family.
Neji’s very fit due to his style of fighting, but usually wears loose clothing that doesn’t really show it off- usually pale long-sleeved shirts and big coats. He also likes to wear white bandages that cover a swastika-shaped mark on his forehead.
Personality: Neji can come across as rather asshole-y and can contradict himself at times. He doesn’t hesitate to rant about what his opponent’s ‘destiny’ or ‘fate’ is and can underestimate people to extreme extents.
He can read people’s emotions and expressions surprisingly well. He also firmly believes that ‘losers’ cannot change no matter how hard they try. He also believes that the same thing goes along with a person’s fate and destiny, that they are irreversible and unchangeable.
Abilities/Weaponry: Neji has a talisman that his family calls the ‘Byakugan’. To be able to activate it, he has to draw a circle with chalk (or something else that can cause a white coloring) on the back of the talisman and say a short chant. The veins around his eyes become bulgy and extremely noticeable when it is activated. It gives him the ability to see through anything- a sort of X-ray vision, if you will, which can come in very handy. It also gives him an almost 360 degrees range of viewing, making him very aware of his surroundings. This makes him very hard to sneak up upon in battle. The Byakugan talisman also has a different ability- to be able to see pressure points on a person’s body more easily than if he were just guessing as to where they were. He can halt this ability whenever he likes. However, this ability has a weakness- it strains his eyes to an extreme amount that depends on how long he uses it, causing him to go through large amounts of pain after its use. It also takes a fair amount of energy from him; for example, if he uses it for more than one hour, he’ll probably collapse from exhaustion after it.
He also has another, less powerful spell, but still very effective when Neji hits the right spots. He activates it by saying a chant, and then is granted a temporary boost of concise strength that he uses in his hand-to-hand fighting.
His hand-to-hand fighting plays a large part in his fights. He uses an Iron Palm type of fighting, using quick, precise strikes on someone’s pressure points that can cause pain, loss of muscle use, and can even break bones without brute force.
Weaknesses: Neji’s Byakugan, though useful, does not have an entire 360 range of view. There is a certain spot that he cannot see- however, an opponent has to be very intelligent or observant to notice this. He can underestimate people at times, which can leave him vulnerable.
And, as stated before, the Byakugan causes immense main in his eyes and can leave him exhausted and as a result very vulnerable after a long fight.
History: Neji was born in Japan. He was a member of an elite magic-using family- the Hyuuga clan. This family was split into two parts- the main house and the branch house. Since his father was the younger of two brothers (twins, even), he was born into the branch house- which has the sole purpose of protecting members of the main house, mainly the heir.
Neji’s father, Hizashi, saw large amounts of talent in Neji, and lamented the fact that he was not born as the heir to the main house. Neji originally did not have a grudge against the main house, but seeing his own father having hatred for the main house and his brother, Neji began to resent it himself.
When Neji was four, he was branded with a curse mark on his forehead that all members of the branch house receive. The curse mark gives the main house the ability to kill a member of the branch house at any time they want- also, the curse mark automatically causes the Byakugan talisman to self-destruct if the user is killed, to prevent the Hyuuga clan’s techniques from being stolen and imitated. Neji had first seen this curse mark when he was younger, and his cousin Hinata was training with her father (both in the main house). Hiashi (Hinata’s father and Hizashi’s brother) detected vibes of ill-will coming from Hizashi because of his resentment over the fact that Neji would never be the leader of the family, and activated the curse mark- which put his brother in immense pain.
Neji’s true hatred for the main house grew even more, however, when an unfortunate incident left his father dead. The Hyuuga clan decided to sign a treaty with another clan which there had been tensions between. An ambassador from the other family was sent to sign it. However, on the same night that Neji was branded with the curse seal, the ambassador attempted to kidnap Hinata. Hiashi found him and killed him, but the other clan demanded payback- Hiashi’s dead body. That day, Hizashi was killed instead of Hiashi due to their similarities in appearance, and Neji grew up believing that his father was forced to die for the sake of the main house.
Neji grew up, his magical and hand-to-hand fighting skills steadily increasing past Hinata’s and her sister’s. When he was nineteen, he decided to move away from the main house, to Allupato- to leave his past behind.
